SCUBA DIVING IN THE RED SEA!

Wow - another incredible day here in Egypt.  We headed out about 8:30 this morning from the hotel.  The hotel we stayed at last night did not have television or anything like that.  So no news for me!  The hotel itself had a wonderful view.  There were mountains shadowing the back to it.  You can see the photograph below here.

We headed south in Egypt to a place called Dahab.  This is where I went scuba diving in the Red Sea.  I was a bit nervous at first.  I have not been diving in about 15 or 16 months.  I had nothing to worry about though.  The instructor that we hired was patient and handled things well.  Once he started giving me the refresher course everything came back to me.  I didn't have a single problem.  The first place that I went diving was called "The Lighthouse."  This was a small drive from the diving school.  Once we arrived we geared up and headed for the water.  There were a number of other scuba divers in the area.  They also had a large beach at this location.  The town itself seemed pretty small.  Our guide told us that the population is about 25,000.  That really surprised us.  It looks like only several thousand people live there.

The water was mild - not chilly at all!  This is just the way I like it.  The visibility was great!  I was able to see a ton of colorful tropical fish.  I love the ones that are incandescent in color.  They almost glow under the water.  It is like someone has filled them with dozens of candles and each candle is producing a different color of light.  The reef at this first location was nice but Cancun was nicer.  The second place that I went diving beat Cancun by a mile!  We dove at the first location for about 30 minutes.  After the refresher dive we headed for a different area of the Red Sea.  This second area was not far from the first.

The second area was amazing.  When you first get there, and get out of the car, you can see a light blue area of water that goes out about 300 yards.  This is where the reef is located.  You walk through the water that is covering the stone that leads to the drop off point.  Once you get past this shallow water then you immediately drop off to about 30 meters.  This is where the instructor and I went diving.  Immediately upon entering the water and dropping about 10 or 20 feet you are able to see thousands of "gold" fish and tropical species of every kind.  I have never seen some of the colors that I witnessed today on fish.  There was one fish that was at least 15 different colors.  I hung around with it for about 5 minutes.  Every time that it would change direction you could see its body would turn different colors.  It was as if God had not been able to make up his mind as to what color to make it.  This fish would make every kid smile from one end of the planet to the next.  You just could not help being in awe at a creature so beautiful!!!!!  I had a blast diving at this location.  The reef can not be summed up in a few paragraphs.  It is just incredibly beautiful!  The amount of life on this reef must exceed numbers themselves.  It was like a large breathing creature.  You could see everything swaying to the movement of the ocean currents.  I kept thinking that I had been transported to a salt-water fish tank!  I don't think a person could duplicate what this fish tank looked like!!!!!  I wish I could have captured it on film.  I do have a few photographs of me under water and so  on.  I will post those down below.

I keep thinking that I wish "so and so was here."  I could just see Danny's face on this trip.  I  know that he likes to explore!  I wish my nephews and nieces could see some of this!!!!

Anyway -  I wish I was able to write better and explain in words what this trip has meant to me.  I know that I will be forever changed because I was able to visit a part of the world that most will never see.  I am glad that I am meeting people that actually live here and enjoy talking about their culture.  It will take years though before I can even begin to think that I can grasp it all.  So much to learn!

HERE ARE THE PHOTOS FROM THE DIVE!

The instructor took the underwater photographs.  It is hard to take photographs underwater.  They show a bit of what was going on!

The beginning of dive one.  David took this shot from the beach.  It has
been a little over a year since my last dive in Cancun.  I remembered
everything though.

Beau Scuba Diving in the Red Sea!  It was amazing.  Best diving yet!  The person
that dove with me took this photo and the ones below.

Diving into a cave area

Scuba Diving - second dive.  Just beautiful underwater scenery.
Amazing reef!  I will defin want to come back to this area.  Wish I had a nice
underwater camera.  This is something I will have to check into.  Defin would
be fun taking photographs of this underwater world.

:)  My best imitation of Aqua-Man.

Red Sea - Dive Two!!!

Coming out of the Red Sea with my guide.  You can see the mountains in the
background!!!  Awesome!

I am finished with the second dive of the day!  It was a lot of fun.  I won't
ever forget this location and I hope to come back one day.  The beauty
of the sea is just amazing.  It is like a thousand sunsets!  Truly an incredible
world.

Moses our guide and me in front of the diver instructors jeep.  I just
finished my second dive when this photograph was taken by David.

David took this photo of me standing in front of the dive center.  This is
where we went to find out where the best diving would be for the day.
The company is run by Germans.  Very nice people.  Friendly and just
pleasant all the way around.

This was the sign out in front of the dive center - looking from behind
of the sign.  I thought it was pretty kewl!

Alcapone Restaurant - Dahob, Egypt.  This place was RIGHT on the Red Sea!
You could feel the spray from the water at times.  Sorry the photo is a bit
dark!  We needed our flash I guess.  :)

Moses and Muhammed.  Muhammed was our driver.  This pic was
too dark - I needed a flash!  Very nice people.

At the end of the day we had to say goodbye to our new friends!  Tomorrow we will
move to Jordan - more adventures are ahead of us.

EGYPT WAS WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Jordan will be a GREAT adventure.  We will be staying in tents the first night that we arrive.  This will be in the desert.  You can also sleep under the stars if you like.  I am hoping that we are able to see more starts than ever before!
