Norman at the Toronto Airport...waiting to get on the
plane to Germany
We have arrived in Munich, Germany! YAY It was an eight hour flight. A very exciting evening. We left Toronto at 8 pm. The meal on the plane took about 3 hours to complete. :) They also showed several movies. I believe I fell asleep around 12 a.m. With all of the time changes we landed in Germany around 10 a.m. Central European Time. Right now it is 4 a.m. in Toronto and 3 a.m. in the morning in Kentucky. Flying over Germany you could see thousands and red roof tops. This is a clay tile that they use in the roofing materials. You could also see dozens of very large churches and steeples. The towns are real small...and there appeared to be hundreds of them as we approached the airport. Munich is in Southeast Germany...but it considered a part of the "old" West Germany. This was an area not occupied by the communist. Berlin is to our north and east. The plane ride was not bad. Seemed to pass a lot quicker than you would think. So far I don't feel the jet lag. David says that I will feel this later in the day. Norman is doing just fine. We did have someone meet at us the airport to assist us.
Some of the red roof tops over Germany
We have a few books about Romania along with a sheet that David gave to us about how to handle vampires...IF NEED BE!
We should arrive in Romania at 4 pm our time...and that would be morning back home in Paducah and Toronto.
Had a very nice visit with everyone in Toronto over the past few days. I have not been able to see my friend Bryen yet. Perhaps on the way back. I will be in Toronto next Sunday through Wednesday.
The weather here is nice and sunny and about 42 degrees. Not too bad. Romania is in the 50s. Hopefully the weather will be nice. When we left Toronto it was snowing to beat the band. BIG snowflakes...much like small SNOWBALLS! It was MESSY MESSY MESSY! But you know I love it. Amazing weather. A huge storm moved up the East Coast of the United States. Major flooding in many areas. This was the same storm that brought snow to Toronto.
Snowing - BIG flakes in Toronto - this was right before
we left yesterday
So all in all it is early here in Germany. I have to admit that I was kinda dreading the trip over...not knowing what to expect...a bit anxious - I am really glad that I have come over here. I knew once we arrived that I would be excited. So I am thrilled to be among good company - and looking forward to great adventures in the week ahead.
Everyone says things are going well back home. I trust that is true :)
Monday Evening...
We have arrived in Romania. It was a fairly short flight from Germany to this country. We were able to see the Alps as we flew towards Romania. They are HUGE :)
It is about 6 in the evening here. We
are now one more hour ahead than we were in Germany.
The Alps
This was the airplane from Germany to Bucharest,
Romania.
It is now 7:00 p.m. in Romania - this means it is 12:00 p.m. in Toronto and 11:00 a.m. in Paducah :) Just for reference.
Monday Evening...Romania - 11:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Toronto and 3:00 p.m. in Paducah
Had a lovely evening with Mehai (I may be spelling that wrong...will correct it later) Norman and David. We went to this amazing little pub/restaurant called the Terasa Doamnei. They had folk music for the entire time we were there. This also included dancing. They played about six or seven different musical instruments. The walls were decorated with all sorts of Romanian farm tools of the old. Now the menu was a little bit different than what I am used to. Ox brains and Ox Tongue were two if the dishes available for those brave enough to venture into that territory. I was not. lol :) I was however adventuresome enough to try the Carpathian Bear with wild mushrooms. It was delicious :) So now that makes Bison in Toronto and Bear here in Romania. It was a very tender meat. I was not sure really what to expect. I enjoyed all of it though. David had some sort of Pork and Norman...well I am not really sure what that was that he was eating. :) hehe
It was a wonderful atmosphere - enjoyed every minute of our time there. I think everyone is pretty tired now. I guess it is about time for bed.
This was a Romanian Bank outside of the restaurante we ate
at. It
is an extremely large and impressive building. Thought it was a nice
photograph. Many buildings here a large and looming...impressive
structures.
This is part of the band that was playing at the
restraurant we were eating
at tonight. They played Romanian Music. Folksy type songs.
This lady sang several songs while we were eating. She even
changed into a different costume from time to time. :)
Another member of the band...
Dancers at the Doamnei Restaurant.
Anyhoo...all is well here in the Country of
Romania. Norman seems very happy so far. He is having a wonderful
time. All of us are. We are going to explore the city
tomorrow. I am excited about that. So far no real jet lag. I
am tired though. It is late here.
MAP OF EASTERN EUROPE - SO YOU KNOW WHERE WE ARE!!!!
Map of Eastern Europe. You can see
Italy there to the left at the bottom. Romania is to the
Northeast of Italy. You can see Bucharest there (the capital) below the
word Romania.
This is Eastern Europe of course. It used to be a communist country but
they now consider
themselves to be a democracy. They had elections last year in the
fall. The opposition won
that election and replaced the previous prime minister.
