THE FLOOD OF '05
Massac County - Metropolis
THE CREST
January 17, 2005
A cold day here in Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. The low temperature dipped down to 8 degrees above zero. We are supposed to be in the single digits again tomorrow morning. Lot of ice starting to form on the water.
Everything is going really well in Livingston County. The crest is going to be today. The level of the water should then remain steady through most of this week. A slow fall should start by this weekend.
There is a possibility of a winter storm on Friday and Saturday of this week. Too early to determine how much rain or snow will fall. I do expect a stripe of 6"+ across portions of Illinois and Indiana.
Here are some photographs from

So that crest was today here in McCracken County, Kentucky. We are now at
the highest water levels of this flood event. Thankfully the water will
start going down in a few days. It will be a slow fall. No heavy
rains are expected around here through the weekend.
