Okay today has not started off well. First Daisy
wouldn't come in from outside this morning. I spent about
15 minutes trying to catch and lure her back inside. I
finally got mad and just left her outside. If she doesn't
want to come in...well then whatever. I was tired of
chasing her. That made me mad more so because I cut my
foot on the screen door white trying to catch her. So
blame the dog seems to fit in this case. grrrr Then,
when I walked back inside the house, I noticed a bunch of white
marks on the carpet downstairs. I have been away for
awhile so I wondered what happened. So I got some hot
water and started scrubbing the floor. I scrubbed and
scrubbed and the white marks didn't budge. Then I looked
around and noticed another set of similar white marks a few feet
away. At this point I was pretty mad. I was thinking
that one of the kids had spilled bleach on the floor. So
here I am with Daisy standing at the door, about 2 feet away,
looking at me - more like mocking me, rags in hand, scrubbing
the floor, and my big toe bleeding. She won't come
in...the stains won't come off...and I am getting more and more
upset - probably saying a few cuss words as well. So after
about 10 minutes of going to the sink and getting hot water,
spraying carpet cleaner on the floor, and scrubbing hard - I
repositioned myself and moved over about six inches. I
figured I would hit it from another angle. At that point I
noticed the white stains disappeared. So, I was confused
for a few seconds. I then stood up and the stains quickly
reappeared. Well it ended up that the stains were actually
rays of light hitting the window, from the morning sun, then
bursting through the blinds and finally landing on the floor.
Thus making a splattering of what appeared to be white stains.
:( So I gave it a sigh and decided today had not started
out on quite the way I wanted it to.
And the beat goes on :) So I have about a
thousand things I am trying to accomplish around here. The
list seems endless...then again there is always an end to a
list!
Tropical Storm Dean has formed in the Atlantic.
This system could become a hurricane later this week and
threaten the islands. Unsure as to whether this system
will impact the United States. Hurricane Flossie is
brushing Hawaii this morning and will continue to do so through
the day. A bit unusual but not unheard of.
Having lunch with Caesar. I noticed they have
opened the cooling centers again. The heat should continue
through the week - there is hope though. Cooler temps MAY
appear later this weekend and next week. Let's all cross
our fingers.
Okay this is a first attempt at using this video editing - I
am still learning. I want to be able to do some video of
the winter storms this winter.
OKay so the unpacking for winter is coming along - I saw
unpacking because I have to go through everything in order to
repack it all. :) So major preparations are being
made for spending a winter in New England. Trying to get
all of my camera gear up to date. Trying to make sure I
have the right gear for the weather - plenty of memory cards -
filters and so on. I can't handle winter in Paducah.
Not after what happened last year. The insanity of it all.
One inch of freakin snow - so many possibilities lost. lol
:) SOOOO this year it better snow in New England.
Otherwise ALASKA next year!
I will post my chase updates - snow and other on that
web-site! Still working on it. It is coming along
nicely though. Finally got the Dash Cam added. :)
Now we need internet in the car. Still working on that
project. I need to learn more about how to edit videos.
:)
I received my DVD's for the next semester of school.
They came in the mail today. :) Ummm yay for math!
MUCH BETTER!!!!! Second attempt at learning this software!
Okay number 3 :)
From my Boulder, Colorado Winter Storm Chase :)
Our second house is coming along nicely. The first one
still
needs to sell though. :) Hopefully someone will come
along and
buy it. We had someone from Boston looking at both houses.
That would be funny if they bought both! :) Maybe I
can make a
trade with them. lol

Tommy tonight. Not sure what is on the menu though!
I have been posting more on my weather blog lately. :) heh

Hurricane Dean continues to strengthen in the Atlantic.
Could be a powerful hurricane as it moves into the Caribbean.
Still not sure if this storm will impact the United States.
EXTREME heat yesterday - temperatures across Western Kentucky
ranged from 100-106 degrees. Temperatures today have
already reached 104 here in Paducah. INCREDIBLE HEAT!
107 at WPSD TV Six this
afternoon! Hottest that Cal Sisto has seen in over 20
years of living here. It was 105 at the NWS today -
highest temperature since the 1950s!!!! AMAZING

Well apparently the banking crisis (brought on
themselves) has hit this region. After a lengthy
phone call last night from our banker it sounds like
there are a lot of nervous lenders out there.
Unfortunately the banks should have known better -
giving out loans to people who could not afford them.
If you ask me a lot of banks took advantage of people -
these mortgage houses are to blame just as much as the
people who borrowed the monies. The government is
talking about passing new laws to try and prevent this
from happening again. Either way we are feeling
the heat. I have to meet with the bankers this
afternoon to go over everything that New Horizons is
doing.
Perhaps going to catch a movie tonight. Have
spent the entire week learning new software and upgraded
computers - working on camera equipment and fine tuning
the process. Trying to prepare for the next big
quarter.
I wish we could figure out the short term rental in
Boston. They won't take people until the end of
October or November. So we won't know where we can
live until then. Oh well - I guess we will wait!
Kristy is coming up for Labor Day Weekend - she is
brining Queen Lucy as well. Should be fun for
Daisy! She has not seen Lucy in months.
Hurricane Dean continues to strengthen in the
Caribbean. Winds are now over 105 miles per hour.
They are talking about bringing people to Kentucky - if
it moves towards the Gulf Coast.
Otherwise...school starts on Monday. I guess I
am ready for that. I am hoping the math is not as
hard as it appears. We shall see. Family
reunion is next weekend. We will be going to
Chicago for that. Deena and Tony are riding with
me - and the kids. We will be meeting my dad up
there (and the rest of the family).
The State of Kentucky has agreed
to take 5000 people from Louisiana in case of major
evacuations. Difficult to say what will happen.
The track of Hurricane Dean has yet to be determined.
We could see two Mexico hits. One being the
Yucatan and the other being south of Texas. LONG
way off though and WAY to early to determine this.
Posting a ton of Hurricane Dean images on my weather
blog - here

THE HEAT WAVE - SOME STATS
Listing of records set during this heat wave
The intensity and duration of the heat this summer is
notable. Although July averaged out to be the 8th
coolest July on record at Paducah, the heat came on with
a vengeance at the tail end of July. The following are
some statistics on this heat wave:
Longest streak of 95-plus high temperatures set at
Evansville - Through and including August 16, there were
14 consecutive days of highs of 95 or above there. The
previous record was 12 days in July of both 1983 and
1936. Evansville records extend back to 1896.
Third longest streak of 95-plus high temperatures at
Paducah - Through August 16, there were 15 consecutive
days of highs of 95 or above. This exceeds the streak of
13 days in 1988 and 7 days in 1999. The only longer
streaks ended on August 13, 1941 (18 days) and July 20,
1980 (17 days).
Consecutive days of 90 or above: At Paducah, August 16
marked the 22nd consecutive day of 90-plus highs. This
is one of the eight longest streaks on record. The
record of 38 days was set during the hot summer of 1993.
Second place is 32 days during the infamous summer of
1988. This current streak already rivals the summer of
1999, when there were 23 consecutive 90-degree days.
Evansville’s 90-degree streak: Through August 16, there
were 18 consecutive days at or above 90 at Evansville.
This ranks in the top 14 longest streaks. Three of the
four longest streaks of 90-plus highs were set in the
1930’s.
Daily high temperature records:
Evansville: August 12...98 degrees (tied previous
record)
Evansville: August 13...97 degrees (tied previous
record)
Evansville: August 15...104 degrees (Hottest temperature
since July 13, 1966...and 1 degree shy of monthly record
for August).

Paducah: August 16...105 degrees (Hottest temperature
since July 14, 1966...three degrees shy of highest
all-time temperature record...and 1 degree shy of
monthly record for August)
100-degree days at Paducah: There have been 4 days with
highs of at least 100 degrees at Paducah this summer.
The last summer Paducah reached 100 degrees was in 1999,
when there were 4 such days. In 1988, there were 12 such
days. The record is 14 days in 1954.

was in 1995, when there were 4 such days. In 1988, there
were 7 such days. The record is 23 days in 1936.
After slight relief from the extreme heat this weekend,
heat is expected to build back into our region Monday
through Wednesday. Guide to heat wave safety
recommendations and heat index forecasts.
DEAN
STRENGTHENS TO A DANGEROUS CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE
This
evening at 11 p.m. the National Hurricane Center has
issued a bulletin stating that Hurricane Dean has winds
of 145 miles per hour with gusts to 180 miles per hour.
An extremely dangerous hurricane.
Jamaica could sustain
a direct hit from Hurricane Dean. After that it
appears to be heading towards the Yucatan Peninsula.
There is much debate about the eventual track. Whether
it strikes the United States has yet to be determined.
