MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25, 2006
The National Weather Service Office in Paducah, Kentucky will host a press conference this Monday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2006, beginning at 4:00 P.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown, Missouri. Topic of discussion will be the Perry County, MO to Jackson County, IL tornado that occurred on Friday, September 22. The press conference will be conducted by National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin.
Damage surveys are continuing, particularly for the long-track tornado across Perry County, Missouri into Jackson County, Illinois. This tornado will be rated at least F-3 (158 to 206 MPH), but a final intensity rating has not yet been assigned. The tornado damage in the Jackson County portion of the path was rated F-2.
Until Friday, Sept. 22, the
strongest September tornadoes on record in the 58 counties assigned to the
Paducah office were F-2 intensity. The F-3 tornadoes and possible F-4 tornado
on Sept. 22 were the strongest on record for the month of September, including
unofficial records going back to 1880.
